It is hard to believe
that we’ve been at school for a whole month already! We are now in full Kindergarten learning
mode!!
In Language Arts, we are learning to track text from left to right in a book; we are learning our letter names and sounds, and how to stretch out those sounds to read words. We are also talking about the difference between a letter, a word, and a sentence. You can help your child at home by pointing those out in books or magazines. Last week, we read books about signs and we discussed how important and useful words can be, especially on signs like “Caution, crocodiles crossing”.
We are also learning how to read sight words, so please practice those at home. Below, you will find a link to our Kindergarten sight words.

Kindergarten Sight Words
- In Math, we are learning to rote count to 100 by ones and by tens. We already have 4 students who made it into the I Can Count to 100 Club!! Please practice counting at home. The more we practice, the faster we’ll learn! We are also learning to count and write the matching number for sets of objects up to 20. Here are some questions you can ask your student:How many socks are in the laundry basket? How do you know? What happens if I add one more? Does it change how many? How many are there now?
- In Social Studies, we just finished our unit on Labor Day, specifically onCommunity Workers. We are now starting our first Science unit on physical properties. We are going to learn about and explore our 5 senses. Take a walk outside with your child and ask:What do you see? What do you smell? How does this tree trunk feel? How about the grass? What do you hear?
Reminders!!
- Our library check out day is every Thursday, so make sure your child brings his/her library book to school before or on Thursdays.
- Please look inside your child’s folder every day! Your student’s work is in there. If they did not receive an S, go over it with them and try to help them correct it.
- Our P.E days are Tuesdays and Thursdays, and sometimes Mondays. Please make sure your child has tennis shoes on those days.
- Don’t forget to include a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents happen! J
- Your child will soon bring a leveled reader’s book in a gallon size Ziploc bag. Please make sure your child reads the book to you and places the book back in the Ziploc bag. The reader’s book has to come back to school every day!
